The contest was closer than the final score suggested. The Owls won twice in singles, by senior Ross Crawford at No. 4 -- winning a third-set tiebreaker after rallying from a loss to open the 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10-8) tilt -- and sophomore Brandon Mullins, a 6-4, 6-4 sweep at No. 6 his first varsity singles victory.
Sophomore John Van also found himself in a marathon at No. 3, losing a 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (10-4) decision to junior Logan Brunner. Brunner and senior Savaan Thakrar were also pushed in the second set at No. 2 doubles by Van and sophomore Ethan Murphy, but the Jays (8-3) claimed a 6-2, 7-6 (7-0) victory.
Marshall (7-8) will head to Hannibal on Saturday for the NCMC Tournament.
