Whether your child is getting ready for their first dentist visit, or getting ready for the first day of school, or any one of the million things families get to look forward to, we have a book that will help you out.
When I was in school, I used to love looking through the card catalog, looking for a book on a specific subject, or by a certain author.
I did not realize the work that our librarians put into filling out those cards, getting everything just so to make it easy for me to do a research paper until I started working at the Marshall Public Library.
Soon I realized that any book could be filed away under fifty different headings.
Thankfully, we live in the time of technology, where all of the needed information is just a click away.
One of the biggest parts of my job is matching families and kids with the appropriate reading materials, whether it be what your children are interested in, or finding something for their reading level.
So next time you come to the library, come find me. I am available at all times.
I am very excited to base this month's interview on this topic.
This guy gave me a funny way of thinking about somethings that have been going on in my own house. I would like to introduce you to Dakota Mackey, 3 years old, from Marshall. He is the son of Jason Mackey and yes, yours truly.
Dakota has read the book, by Gaelyn Gordon.
Dakota, what was this book about?
About a odd duck, he goes MEOW!
That doesn't seem right. Are you sure?
Yes. He was a odd duck. He thought he was a cat! Silly duck.
Did he act like a cat?
Yeah.
What did he do?
He drank milk. Curled up in a ball and slept. He not like swimming in water. He got five mouses too.
Was Mabel worried about the way he acted?
Yeah. She read doctor book about funny ducks.
How did Mabel find out he was just teasing with her?
Duck flew down from the light and cats can't fly! Then he swam in lake.
In the end Mabel and duck were surprised by another visitor. What came to the door?
A cat! And the cat did not say "meow." The cat said "Hello!"And then the duck said, "Odd, very odd." And that was crazy. Ducks and cats don't talk!
Do you have pets at home, Dakota?
I have cat name Calliope and two ducks. Their names DuckDuck and Goose. But my ducks say "quack" and my cat says "meow" unless I accidently step on her tail, and then she says "hiiissssss."
Did you like this book?
Yeah. When my ducks get big they will look just like that. My cat looks not the same, but she was a pretty cat anyway.
So, there you have it. A house filled with ducks, cats, and kids, and this book gives Dakota and myself a whole new look on things. Sometimes when we are changing out the old bedding, we lighten up the mood by meowing at the ducks, and thinking of even funnier sounds the ducks could make.
So, remember. If you are looking for that perfect book, stop in and see me. My door is always open. It's not hard to find. Look for the Reading Cow, and you will know you are there.
