The Lady Vikings twice lost one-run leads in the late innings of the opener, a 6-5 loss in eight innings. Junior Kimberly Fuller smashed a pair of two-run homers, giving her eight on the season, to send Valley into the bottom of the sixth inning with a 4-3 lead.
Freshman Jordan Van Houtan's one-out pinch single in the bottom of the sixth tied the game, but the Lady Vikings went ahead in the eighth on junior Heather Sliger's single.
The Lady Pirates tied the game on a single by junior Lisa Luettinger. Senior Megan Goings came in with the winning run when a ball hit to the mound was flubbed.
Junior right-hander Jamie Garman tossed a no-hitter in the five-inning nightcap, Park winning 11-0. Garman allowed only one baserunner, on a lead-off walk in the third.
The Lady Pirates (18-19) scored four runs in the first inning as Garman, Goings, Luettinger and freshman Ashley Brouillette stroked RBI singles. Six more runs came in during the third frame, Luettinger plating two runs with a double and senior Jill Prather clearing the packed sacks with a two-bagger.
Other than the potential demoralizing effect, the losses didn't do Valley any appreciable harm. The Lady Vikings (15-23) will still need to win the Heart of America Conference Tournament to advance in the post-season, so will look for improving their seeding Saturday at league foe MidAmerica Nazarene.
