Girls' Soccer/Moberly 3, Marshall 0

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

MOBERLY -- Eighth-ranked Moberly is one win away from clinching the NCMC girls' soccer title following Tuesday's 3-0 home win over Marshall, ending the Lady Owls' 10-match unbeaten string.

The Lady Spartans struck first 10 minutes into the contest when senior Andie Wiesner bounced a pass into the penalty box and junior Brynne Stansberry knocked the ball into the net.

With five minutes left in the first half, junior Shawn Beard knocked a 30-yard shot over the head of senior goalkeeper Xochitl Ruiz.

Beard added a goal for Moberly in the ninth minute on a shot from the edge of the box.

The Lady Spartans (12-6-1, 7-0 NCMC) dominated the match, out-shooting Marshall, 14-0.

"They possess better than any team we have seen," remarked Lady Owls head coach Josh Posegate. "They have exposed some weaknesses for us to work on."

Marshall (8-3-2, 4-2) will have a chance to make those corrections this weekend when it plays in the Camdenton Tournament for the first time.
