Alleen Hurd, 79, of Warrensburg, formerly of Higginsville, died Monday, April 21, 2008, at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Higginsville, with Pastor Marcus Jauss officiating. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to service at the church. Burial will be held in Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. Marilyn Boeschen, organist, and vocalists Sandy Starkebaum and Patty Kratz will provide music. Pallbearers will be Larry Dedeke, Curtis Lohman, Terry Wodrich, Stan Roepe, Ron Roepe and Kenneth Wodrich. Contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
She was born Oct. 6, 1928, in Kansas City, the daughter of the late Julius and Marie (Jungklaus) Roepe. She worked at Lexington Hospital for nine years, later becoming a home health nurse. She had a paper route for The Kansas City Star, raised turkeys and also worked at Buck's Countrymart Deli. On Oct. 20, 1946, she married Richard Lee Hurd, who preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 2000. She lived in Higginsville from 1959 to 1988, later living in Warsaw, Marshall and Concordia before moving to Warrensburg in 2005.
She is survived by one son, Richard A. Hurd of Higginsville; two daughters, Peggy Fricke of Sedalia and Debbie Wooden of Alma; four sisters, Minerva Tebbenkamp of Concordia, Mabel Dedeke of Leavenworth, Kan., Ruth Tebbenkamp of Concordia and Claudine Petty of Concordia; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Herbert Roepe, Homer Roepe and Ralph Roepe, and four sisters, Lorna Schlickelman, Mildred Lohman, Evelyn Wodrich and Gertrude Brune.
