Junior Emmanuel Reeders took the long jump with a personal record of 20 feet, 8.25 inches. However, Reeders' exertions took him out of the 400-meter relay, forcing the Owls to scratch -- possibly denying them another victory, since the unit's best time this season was nearly a second faster than that of the winner.
Another chance was lost when sophomore Matt Buford was disqualified for a false start in the 100-meter finals after posting the best preliminary time -- his 11.44-second dash not only a personal record, but .24 seconds better than his closest challenger.
Sophomore Evan Johnson helped Marshall to eighth place among 13 boys' teams by coming in third in the long jump (19-8.5) and sixth in the 100 (11.74 seconds). The 800 relay (1:38.0) of Buford, Reeders, Johnson and junior Marty Kays placed fourth.
Also coming through for the Owls was senior Kyle Farrelly with a third in the shot put (49-9.25) and fourth in the discus (138-8), junior Phillip Perkins with a third-place run in the 800 (2:03.3) and senior Jeff Deutsch with sixth in the pole vault (11-6).
Senior Cortni Ervin remained unbeaten in the shot put (40-8.25) with her seventh straight win this season, accounting for 10 of the Marshall girls' 18.5 points.
Freshman Susan Skogsberg placed fourth during her first attempt at the 400 (1:07.02) and the Lady Owls got seventh-place showings from freshman Katie Wells in the 1,600 (5:57.07) and sophomore Kim Deutsch in the pole vault (7-6).
Marshall is scheduled to host a quadrangular meet Thursday.

The Freshman girls are kicking butt! WTG girls!
Also, Cortni broke the Ron Whitaker Bulldog Classic record in the shot put on Saturday. She broke it by 8 inches.
