Baseball/Concordia 11, Slater 9

Friday, April 18, 2008
CONCORDIA -- Concordia came back from a 9-6 deficit Thursday to take a 10-9 non-conference decision from the Slater baseball team.

The Wildcats had taken the lead in the top of the third inning, scoring seven runs -- three free passes with the bases loaded. Freshman Travis Holt had his second RBI single of the game and freshman Ethan Owens cleared the packed bags with a double.

Freshman Drew Smith's two-run double in the bottom of the second had put the Orioles in front, 6-2. However, as they came to bat in the bottom of the fourth, they were trailing.

That's when lightning appeared nearby, causing a 40-minute delay. Slater was blanked over the final three frames -- the game ending in the sixth due to rain -- by senior Logan Lenz and the O's rallied.

Senior Jake Baldwin tied the game with a two-run double in the fourth, with Smith drawing a bases-loaded walk to force in the go-ahead run in the fifth -- one of 21 bases on balls issued during the contest. Smith recorded four RBIs during the game for Concordia (4-5).

Owens drove in three runs with a pair of hits for the 'Cats (1-8), who host New Franklin on Tuesday.
