After stranding seven runners, the fourth-ranked Chiefs finally put hits together during a six-run fifth inning, all they would need for an 11-2 victory at St. Paul.
Senior Kenzie Thorp and sophomore Matt Lovercamp each had two-run doubles during the rally, which was capped by junior Logan Kirchhoff's two-run homer. Kirchhoff would have an RBI double in the sixth and senior Logan Wesley put the game out of reach with a seventh-inning grand slam.
Lovercamp tossed five shutout innings before running into trouble in the sixth. After singles by sophomore Tyler Mattlin and senior Andrew Lemmons plated runs for the Saints (4-6), junior Taylor Wesley relieved and retired six straight batters -- three on strikeouts.
Santa Fe (8-0) is the No. 1 seed in the I-70 Conference Tournament, which begins Monday at Concordia. The Chiefs will have a bye into Wednesday's semifinal round, where they meet the winner between Windsor and Wellington-Napoleon.
