Boys Tennis/Helias 7, Marshall 2

Thursday, April 17, 2008
JEFFERSON CITY -- The Marshall boys' tennis team's second trip to the U.S. 63 corridor in as many days wound up no better than the first one.

The Owls lost their fourth straight match Wednesday, a 7-2 decision for Helias in Jefferson City. The Crusaders won in the top four singles spots, including senior David Landwehr's 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (10-8) overtime victory over junior Mac Evans at No. 3.

Marshall won in extra frames in the bottom two positions, senior Ross Crawford defeating junior Caleb Hughmann, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (10-6), and sophomore Ethan Murphy coming from behind to nip senior Bobby Rauch, 1-6, 6-0, 7-6 (10-4).

Helias (4-3) swept the three doubles matches.

The Owls (7-4) are scheduled to be in Sedalia on Friday for the Smith-Cotton Classic, weather permitting.
