Buford raced past the field while winning the 100- (11.13 seconds) and 200-meter (24.51) dashes, the second time this season he's claimed victories in each event. Buford also handled a leg on the sprint relay teams -- running with sophomore Evan Johnson and juniors Emmanuel Reeders and Marty Kays -- which won the 400 (45.96) and was second in the 800 (1:38.72).
Reeders (19 feet, 4.5 inches) and Johnson (18-2.25) came in second and fourth, respectively, in the long jump -- with Johnson also claiming a third-place finish in the 100 (11.59).
Freshman Damon Thompson recorded the Owls' best time of the season in the 3,200 (10:44.50) while arriving second and junior Phillip Perkins' fifth-place time in the 1,600 (5:06.73) was a personal record.
Also lowering their career-best marks were senior Jeff Deutsch, first in the pole vault (12-6), and senior Kyle Farrelly in the discus (147-3) -- in which he placed second after winning the shot put (51-0).
Marshall trailed the host Tigers in the team standings, 220 to 100 points.
The Lady Owls were third in the girls' standings with 89.5 points, behind Smith-Cotton (148 points) and Tipton (102).
All-state senior Cortni Ervin remained unbeaten this season in the shot put (41-6), while also coming in second in the discus (86-6) -- one spot ahead of junior teammate Ovaria Farrelly, whose throw of 83-11 was a personal best.
Also breaking her previous standard was senior Rachel Willis during her victory in the pole vault (8-3), sophomore Kim Deutsch (7-0) placing second.
Marshall also got a first-place run from freshman Katie Wells in the 3,200 (13:11.03). A state qualifier in cross country, Wells was also third in the 1,600 (6:10.21) while competing in the distance races for the first time this spring.
The Lady Owls' relay team of Willis, sophomores Kristen McCorkle and Whitney Kelly, and freshman Susan Skogsberg wound up third in both the 400 (58.62) and 800 (2:09.49).
Freshman Kayla Whyte (19.20) and McCorkle (20.09) were second and third in the 100-meter hurdles, the latter improving on her previous top time. Kelly finished fourth in the long jump (14-0).
While some of Marshall's team is scheduled to compete in the prestigious Kansas Relays, which begin today, others are slated to head to Mexico on Saturday for the Bulldog Classic.

Way to go Freshman girls!
