Instead, the large mid-Missouri school won two of four third-set tiebreakers in singles to edge the Owls, 5-4.
Marshall split the six singles matches, with junior Max Bildstein rallying from a first-set shutout to take a 0-6, 6-2, 7-6 (10-4) decision over junior Alex Turner at No. 1. Sophomore John Van also went overtime to beat sophomore Ben Levin at No. 4, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (11-9). Senior Ross Crawford won a little more comfortably at No. 5, 6-2, 7-5.
However, the Kewpies (2-4) had a comeback or two in them. Senior Sang Chung won the second OT of his No. 3 match against junior Mac Evans, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 7-6 (10-7) and sophomore Kevin Guevera got by sophomore Ethan Murphy at No. 6, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (10-5).
Marshall won only one of three doubles matches, also going extra games as Van and Crawford defeated Guevera and sophomore Jay Chenault at No. 3, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (10-6).
The Owls (7-3) will try to snap a three-match skid today when they return to the road for a dual against Helias at Jefferson City.
