Wet grounds made a 7,000-yard course play even longer, and it was reflected in the Owls' score of 408 -- eighth among eight teams in the field.
"No player had ever played Meadow Lake before and they saw it at absolutely the hardest it could play," remarked MHS coach Erek Dusenberry. "Knowing how strong this course is under perfect conditions, I knew our players would struggle -- and struggle they did."
Senior Cody Dusenberry led Marshall with 94, placing him 31st out of 40 entries. Junior David Findlay and sophomore Brandon Hall both came in at 103 and senior Brandon Thiel shot 108. Senior Austin Lamparter's 113 did not count in the scoring.
Senior Brad Moody, a University of Missouri recruit, fired a three-under par 69 to lead Helias to the team title at 315 -- 19 strokes ahead of second-place Jefferson City. No player finished within eight strokes of Moody and only three scores came in under 81.
The Owls will be at home Wednesday for a dual against Sacred Heart of Sedalia.
