The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the accident at about 10:19 p.m. Monday on the South Outer Road, 1 1/2 miles west of Missouri Highway 127.
According to the patrol, the accident occurred as a 1995 Plymouth, driven by Brendan K. Hulett, 18, of Sweet Springs, was traveling eastbound and went off the north edge of the roadway.
The vehicle returned to the roadway and began to turn counter-clockwise and was struck on the passenger side by a 1993 Ford, driven by Jason M. Hall, 24, of Sweet Springs, that was traveling westbound, according to police.
Both vehicles continued off the north edge of the roadway and came to rest. After impact, the Plymouth became fully engulfed in flames, police said.
Saline County Coroner Willie Harlow pronounced both Hulett and passenger, Lynn R. Plummer, 18, of Sweet Springs, dead at the scene at 11:10 p.m., according to the report.
Harlow said both were killed by blunt trauma to the head and were dead before the fire broke out.
Both Hulett and Plummer were wearing their safety belts. They were taken to Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home.
Hall and his passenger, 20-year-old Keshia Hall of Sweet Springs, received serious injuries. Both were taken to I-70 Medical Center for treatment of injuries. The Halls were not wearing their safety belts, according to the report.
The Plymouth and Ford were both declared totaled and towed from the scene of the accident. Three members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Saline County Sheriff's Department and Sweet Springs Police Department worked the accident.

Lynne Plummer was a friend of mine, I knew her family really well....Since I moved up to Illinois I didn't really talk to them much anymore...It makes it sort of hard to believe...She was such a nice girl...She had such a strong personality...I just can't believe she's gone...
My heart goes out to both of the victims families. It is such a sad loss for both families.
This is such a loss to our community. They say there is a reason for everything that happens, but for the life of me,I can not find one reason for this accident, that took the life of two of our seniors. As a police Officer you are trained to work through these situations and keep going. When something like this happens and these are teens and young adults that you have meet and gotten to know personally, there is a certain sadness and feeling of sorrow that comes over you, not only for the families, but for your fellow Officers,EMS,and Fire workers. Brendon and Lynn were such fun loving kids that had there whole lives in front of them. My heart and prayers go out to the families involved. Life is so short and so presious, and you never know what day will be your last.
My heart aches for these families.
