According to the report, a 2001 Kia Sportage, driven by 21-year-old Cori A. Basham of Belle, was traveling eastbound on I-70 at 5:45 a.m. when the driver apparently fell asleep. The vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway, Basham then overcorrected several times and the vehicle left the right side of the roadway. It then struck an embankment and overturned, police said.
Basham received minor injuries and was taken to I-70 Medical Center in Sweet Springs.
According to police, she was wearing a safety belt.
Two passengers sustained injuries as well. Amie L. Harris, 23, of Vichy, received moderate injuries and was taken to University Hospital in Columbia by air ambulance. According to police, Harris was not wearing a safety belt.
Meagan M. Sooter, 21, of Bland, received minor injuries and was taken to I-70 Medical Center. She was wearing a safety belt, police said.
The Kia was declared totaled and towed from the scene. Basham was cited for careless and imprudent driving, the report said.
