Sophomore Aaron Schlatweiler started the game well enough for the Greyhounds, leading off the first inning with a single and coming in on one of two errors which resulted in two runs.
However, the Saints responded with 10 runs during their half of the frame, aided by six walks and a hit batter provided by sophomore pitchers Billy Martin and Zach Thomas. St. Paul only had three hits during the attack, including a two-run single by senior Andrew Lemmons.
The Saints rang up a nine-spot in the second, with three errors and two walks allowing them to make the most of five hits -- among them two-run singles by freshman Clint Stuenkel and junior Miles Hamilton.
Eventually, junior Carlton Berryman provided effective relief for Sweet Springs, getting the final two outs of the second and allowing only one earned run in the fifth.
The damage had been done, though, so that sophomore Brent Boland's bases-loaded and --clearing double in the five-run fifth was only a last hurrah for the 'Hounds (0-3).
Sophomore Tyler Mattlin didn't allow an earned run and struck out six for St. Paul (3-3).
Winless Sweet Springs is set to host powerful Santa Fe, which has amassed 61 runs in its first three games, Friday at the City Park field.
