Margaret Pond was on hand at the Steve McQueen Day festival in Slater Saturday, March 29, with the McCown Brothers Chevrolet racer her father, Ken Taylor, drove during his racing career in the 1950s and 1960s. Taylor was killed in an accident in 1966. He was one of two area auto racing legends honored in a memorial race last year. The car was restored in 2005. It was one of more than 100 hotrods and custom cars in the festival's car show. Slater officials estimated that about 3,000 attended the festival this year.
