CENTERVIEW -- Crest Ridge scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie en route to a 5-4 non-conference home win over the Sweet Springs baseball team.

The Greyhounds were playing catch-up after a wild pitch allowed junior Tucker Waggoner to come in with the game's first run with two outs in the bottom of the second inning.

Sweet Springs (0-3) tied the score in the fourth when junior Jacob Navarro, who had singled to start the frame, was forced in when senior Austin Hedgpeth was plunked with the bases loaded.

Two errors put the Cougars back in front in the bottom of the fourth, but Hedgpeth's clutch single in the sixth brought in sophomore Zach Thomas with the tying run.

Crest Ridge (1-2) took the lead for good with three scraggly runs in the sixth. A walk and botched fielder's choice set up junior Chad Siegfried's two-run double. Siegfried scored on a single by junior Garrett Whited.

The 'Hounds' seventh-inning rally fell short. It began with sophomore Billy Martin's two-out single.

Navarro walked and Thomas and junior Quinn Jones singled to put the tying run on third base and go-ahead runner on second.

However, Siegfried got sophomore Brent Boland to ground out to save the win for sophomore Ben Owens.

On the softball field, Sweet Springs got off to a strong start, but couldn't hold its early lead during a 9-4 loss to Crest Ridge.

The Lady Greyhounds scored three times in the top of the first on singles by Shelby Hayworth, sophomore Kristin Jones and senior Caroline Tyler -- with junior Sammi DeWeese driving in the last two runs with a triple.

However, Sweet Springs was limited to one run the rest of the game by junior Taylor Hazel, who helped her own cause with a single and run scored in the second.

Two errors allowed the Lady Cougars to add a second run during the frame, but defense was an even more acute problem in the fourth inning for the Blue and Gold.

The Lady 'Hounds committed three costly boots, allowing Crest Ridge to score five unearned runs. Junior Lauren Brockhaus had a two-run single and came in on junior Errin Robertson's base hit to make it 7-3.

Hayworth singled to lead off the fifth for Sweet Springs, crossing the plate on Jones' grounder, but the Lady Cougars (5-0) wouldn't allow the visitors to get closer -- and tacked on a pair of insurance runs on a Hazel double and sophomore Ashton Doak's single in the sixth.

The Lady 'Hounds (0-3), who banged out 10 hits, play Wednesday at St. Paul.
