Marshall Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 664 W. Thomas St. at 1:36 a.m. Monday, March 31.

Fire Chief John Rieves said the fire started in the garage of a vacant rental property. The fire quickly spread to the attic of the house the garage was attached to.

The estimated total loss to the structure is $35,000 of the $85,000 valued structure, according to Rieves.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Rieves said.

"It is still under investigation," he said. "We are waiting for someone from the fire marshal's office to come."

The owner of the property is Winona Orndorff.

The last truck reported to the fire station at 4:34 a.m.
