Salisbury man killed March 29 in wreck on Highway 41 in Saline County

Sunday, March 30, 2008

A Salisbury man was killed in a one-vehicle accident on Highway 41 at Salt Fork Creek in Saline County shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday, March 29, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.

Saline County Coroner Willie Harlow pronounced Thomas V. Garner, 55, dead at the scene of the accident, according to the MSHP report.

Garner was traveling southbound when his 2003 Ford traveled off the right side of the road on a curve and went down an embankment, troopers said.

Garner was thrown from the vehicle when it overturned. The vehicle then struck a tree and caught fire, troopers said.

It was not known if Garner was wearing a safety belt, according to the report.

Hey... I am his daughter... this is really in response to cutler06... I agree with you about wearing seatbelts for the majority, but what you need to realize is that I thank God that he probably wasn't wearing his seatbelt, knowing my father. His truck burnt and I went to see it... there was nothing left to it. If he had worn his seatbelt he would have burnt to death and that would have been much worse. He was spared that kind of a death. Please be sure to get your facts before responding as such. We are all having a terrible time with this, but we know he is with God now and he didn't suffer. Thank you all for your sympathy, it is very difficult to take even knowing he didn't suffer... we all thought we had more time.

Although it is not known as if he was or was not wearing his seatbelt. This was a tragedy and my heart goes out to his family.

I too was in a wreck & yes I was very lucky that i was wearing my seatbelt because if not my car flipped about four times & I would of gotten ejected from the vehicle.

Yes! It is a terrible tragedy. You have no idea.....how dare you even comment! This article doesn't say that HE WASN'T wearing a seatbelt! And did you even give any thought to the possibility that GOD had other things in mind?

I will give you this much..........usually if you are wearing a seatbelt the out-come is much better. But!!!!!!!!!!!this article does NOT say that he wasn't! "It is not known if Garner was wearing a seatbelt, according to the report."

And even if he wasn't.......do you realize that the car caught on fire?

What a terrible tragedy. No disrespect to the deceased or his family, but this is what happens during a rollover accident when you're not wearing your safety belt, you get ejected. It's proven, and we see it all the time, you have a much greater chance of survival if you remain in your vehicle......please wear your seatbelts.
