CENTERVIEW -- The Santa Fe baseball team brought its whipping sticks to the yard Thursday in order to thrash Crest Ridge, 25-5.

The visiting Chiefs scored at least four runs in every inning except the fifth and final one, when two were brought in on senior Kenzie Thorp's single. The previous frame Thorp had smashed this third homer of the season, a two-run shot which was part of his five runs batted in during the game.

The Cougars (0-2) used a pair of errors, plus a double by senior Andrew White and senior Jed Adams' single, to score three runs in the bottom of the first inning -- after junior Logan Kirchhoff's two-run single had staked Santa Fe to a 4-0 lead.

A double by senior Brandon Schmidt and junior Taylor Wesley's single each knocked in two runs during the Chiefs' eight-run second. Junior Ben Catlett had a two-run single while Santa Fe tallied five runs in the third.

Schmidt and Kirchhoff each had three hits and drove in three runs and sophomore Hunter Rolf also had three hits and scored four times for the Chiefs (3-0), who play Thursday at Wellington-Napoleon.
