"His words were, 'I left a good score out there today,'" remarked Owls coach Erek Dusenberry. "Cody came off the course frozen and upset with himself due to the fact that he hit the ball better than any time this season and got nothing out of the round."
Cool, moist conditions, along with a topping of sand on the greens, meant Indian Foothills Golf Course "played about three strokes a player harder today," according to Dusenberry. Marshall finished third among the three teams with 190 points, trailing Helias (155) and Smith-Cotton (193).
Senior University of Missouri recruit Brad Moody led all players with a two-over-par 38, while the rest of the Crusaders' scorers shot 39 -- a mark equaled only by Tigers sophomore Jacob Burkholder.
Cody Dusenberry led the Owls with a 43, even after missing five putts within five feet. Senior Brandon Thiel, junior David Findlay and sophomore Brandon Hall all carded 49s, with senior Austin Lamparter at 52.
Marshall (2-3) will play Monday in the Grain Valley Tournament.
Boys' Tennis
Marshall 9, Boonville 0
BOONVILLE -- The Marshall boys' tennis team used its third different player in the No. 1 singles spot Thursday during a 9-0 non-conference victory at Boonville.
Senior Max Bildstein, a foreign exchange student from Germany, came through with an 8-4 win over senior Grant Myers of the Pirates (2-3). The rest of the Owls followed suit -- seniors Taylor Scarff (8-5) and Ross Crawford (8-3), junior Mac Evans (8-1) and sophomores John Van (8-3) and Ethan Murphy (8-1) sweeping the singles matches.
The doubles team of Van and Crawford had an easy time during an 8-0 whitewash at No. 3, but the other combos found themselves in fights. Scarff-Evans downed Myers and senior Andrew Davis, 8-5, while Bildstein-Murphy was pushed into an extra game during a 9-7 decision over juniors Nick Chapman and Elias Tsapelas.
The Owls (3-0) will be at home today for a make-up match with NCMC rival Moberly.
Weather interrupts
FULTON -- Foul weather conditions in mid-Missouri forced postponement of the Marshall baseball and girls' soccer contests at NCMC rival Fulton.
The Lady Owls completed their junior varsity soccer match, but lightning arrived in time to prevent players from taking the pitch for the varsity tilt. The Owls' baseball team's game has been rescheduled for April 22.
