Marvin Wesley "Wes" Witcher Jr., 46, of Marshall, died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at his home after a year-long courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Marshall, with Rev. Randy Shannon and William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Burial, with military rites, will be held in Witcher Cemetery at Marshall Junction. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Taylor and Haley Witcher Education Fund or Wes Witcher Youth Ministry Endowment Fund in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Born Dec. 1, 1961, in Marshall, he was the son of Marvin Wesley Witcher Sr. of Marshall and Phyllis Jean Howerton Fisher of Marshall. He was a 1980 graduate of Marshall High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Hamilton University. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving at the naval station in Brawdy, Wales. On Aug. 5, 1989, he married Sheri Lee Tyler, who survives of the home. He had lived in Marshall most of his life and was a maintenance and facilities manager at Waterloo Industries in Sedalia. Previously, he worked at Kays Engineering from 1995 to 2000 and was an instructor at State Fair Community College in Sedalia. He was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church and had served as the treasurer of the Men's Fellowship. He was active in his daughters' activities as a coach.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Taylor Rene Witcher and Haley Marie Witcher, both of the home; maternal grandmother, Betty Drake of Marshall; step-mother, Hazel Witcher of Marshall; step-father, Gene Fisher of Marshall; mother-in-law, Susie Anderson and her husband, Tom, of Warsaw; and father-in-law, Herman Tyler and his wife, Lois, of Marshall.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, David Howerton; maternal grandfather, Robert Drake; and paternal grandparents, J.S. and Margaret Witcher.
