MoDOT: I-70 bridge work in Saline County rescheduled

Wednesday, March 19, 2008
The Missouri Department of Transportation has postponed the work on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 over Blackwater River bridge, originally scheduled for March 17, due to inclement weather. The work is now expected to begin March 24 at 6 a.m.

While the work is being done, traffic will be reduced to one lane over the bridge for a three-week period beginning each Monday at 6 a.m. continuing through Thursday of each week until 7 p.m. The contractor's schedule for reducing the bridge to one lane is:

--Monday, March 24, beginning at 6 a.m. through Thursday, March 27, ending at 7 p.m.

--Monday, March 31, beginning at 6 a.m. through Thursday, April 3, ending at 7 p.m.

--Monday, April 7, beginning at 6 a.m. through Thursday, April 10, ending at 7 p.m.

During the closure to one-lane traffic, lighted message boards and other traffic control devices will be in place to alert motorists of the lane closure. Motorists are urged to use caution in the work zone, watch for reduced speed limits and choose alternate routes, if possible. The work is weather dependent and could be postponed or rescheduled to a later date.

Progressive Contractor's Inc. will replace the expansion joints on the eastbound lanes and replace part of the existing barrier wall. The $188,000 contract was awarded to Progressive last December.
