Temporary Miami bridge closing March 15-16 a sign of things to come
Missouri Department of Transportation officials said Friday, March 14, that repairs to the Missouri River bridge at Miami are still scheduled to proceed in spite of a wet weather forecast. Officials said the project is weather dependent, however, and still could be postponed if the weather deteriorates.
The project will require Highway 41 to be closed Saturday, March 15, at 6 a.m. and reopen Sunday, March 16, at 6 p.m.
Repairs consist of adding steel plates to strengthen critical components of the bridge that have deteriorated over the years, according to a news release from MoDOT.
MoDOT officials said they appreciate the patience of the traveling public. The repairs will be made as quickly as possible to minimize the inconvenience to the community, they said.
The brief closing now presages a year-long closing planned within the next couple of years.
Following major renovations of the Missouri River bridge at Glasgow, the bridge at Miami is slated to be improved.
