A three-run homer by sophomore Mike Luczak broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the fifth inning, all that was needed for Harris-Stowe State to take a 4-3 decision.
The Vikings got a solo homer from senior Kyle Eley in the fourth and two-run shot by junior Kevin Challoner in the sixth, but they weren't enough to overcome Luczak's blast.
Eley and Challoner also homered in the nightcap, an 8-5 Valley win. Eley plated two runs in the fifth and Challoner drove in three in the third.
Junior southpaw Jeff Syrop tossed three hitless, scoreless innings to pick up his second win.
The only damage done by the Hornets (5-5) was sophomore Travis Parker's grand slam in the top of the seventh.
The Vikings (5-10) return to Heart of America Conference action today with a home twinbill against Graceland.
