Senior Robert Carey tossed a two-hitter in the opener, allowing only one earned run, to give the Eagles a 3-1 victory. The game was tied at 1-1 until junior Kyle Mowatt stroked a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Avila (7-4, 2-0 HAAC) won the nightcap, 3-2, as four pitchers ganged up to limit the Vikings to one hit. Senior Neftali Lizarraga smacked a two-run homer in the first inning and senior Brad Davidson added an insurance run with a solo shot in the sixth.
No details were available on Valley's performances. Avila failed to report the visitor's side of the box score to the official NAIA statistics site and a request Friday morning to the MVC Athletic Department did not produce any additional data as of press time on Monday.
The Vikings (4-9, 0-2), who have lost eight in a row, played Sunday at Harris-Stowe State. No results are yet available.
