Donald J. Henley, 73, of Kearney, passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at Kansas University Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Kearney Community Covenant Church, 1820 S. Jefferson St., Kearney. Burial will follow in Glenridge Cemetery in Liberty. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at the church. Memorial gifts may be made in Don's honor to Kearney Community Covenant Church.
He was born May 22, 1934, in Hendon, south of Marshall, the son of Sidney and Vivian Scott Henley. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1952, and served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. On Nov. 12, 1960, in Chillicothe, he married Mary Fries. Together they shared 47 years as husband and wife. He owned and operated Henley Motor and Equipment Co. in Kearney for over 20 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of Kearney Community Covenant Church. He was a loving devoted husband, father and grandfather, and will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, of the home; one daughter, Gayle Sembroff and her husband, Michael, of Liberty; one grandson, Aaron of Liberty; one brother, Carroll Henley and his wife, Virginia, of Gladstone; one brother-in-law, Kenneth Fries and his wife, Nancy, of Chillicothe; one aunt, Alice Chapdelaine, of Concord, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Vernon Henley of Gladstone and Phillip Henley of Kansas City; and one sister, Irene Aulgur of Houstonia.
