Richard Lee McMellen, 67, of Marshall, formerly of Slater, died Saturday, March 1, 2008, in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. Burial with military rites will be held in Slater City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Born May 23, 1940, in Marshall, he was the son of the late Ollie T. McMellen and Cora Lee Carter McMellen. He lived in Slater most of his life, where he was a graduate of Slater High School and worked for Missouri State Highway Department, retiring after 21 years of service. On Sept. 8, 1969, he married Linda Darlene Brooks, who preceded him in death on Dec. 6, 1994. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include one son, William Lee "Bill" McMellen and his wife, Jamie, of Marshall; one granddaughter, Chloe Darlene McMellen; along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Wayne McMellen Sr. and James McMellen.
