John M. Johnson, 78, of Warrensburg, formerly of Marshall, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2008, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with Elder Ken Thompson officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association. Born Dec. 16, 1929, in Marshall, he was the son of the late Evan P. Johnson and Flossie M. Sternes Johnson. On Sept. 3, 1954, he married Mary Jane Francis, who survives of the home. He was a 1947 graduate of Marshall High School and attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg. He had lived in Warrensburg since 1954 and retired from Whiteman Air Force Base in July 1991, where he was chief of real estate management. He served in Missouri National Guard for 25 years and Army Reserve for eight years. He was a member of Washington Street Church of Christ. He was also a member of National Association for Retired Employees, Warrensburg Senior Center and AARP.
Additional survivors include one son, David Johnson of Springfield; and one granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mae Koelling and Evelyn Willig.
