William "Woody" Mabary, 93, of Higginsville, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church in Higginsville Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at 11 a.m. Friends may call Thursday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Brand Cemetery in Higginsville. Greg Fine will officiate. Music will be provided by pianist Jolene Vereecke. Pallbearers will be Greg Opfer, Brett Opfer, Reed Opfer, Bert Sowers, Kevin Sowers and Craig Sowers. Memorial contributions are suggested to First Baptist Church in Higginsville or Higginsville American Legion.
Born March 5, 1914, in Preston, he was the son of the late William Jasper Mabary and Ida Belle (McCain) Mabary. He worked as a lead carpenter at Lake City Arsenal until retiring in 1977. He lived in Higginsville since 1930. He served in the U.S. Army 10th Field Artillery Battalion during World War II, ranking Tech, 4th Grade. He married Vivian Thomas July 1, 1939; she preceded him in death Nov. 22, 1974. He married Evelyn Fetter Jan. 17, 1976. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Higginsville and American Legion Post 223.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, of the home; one son, Gary Fetter and his wife, Gloria, of Marshall; one daughter, Sondra Murrell and her husband, Buddy, of Higginsville; five grandchildren, Tanya Bush and her husband, Steve, Tammy Hitt, Timothy Murrell and his wife, Cindy, Todd Fetter and his wife, Tina, and Tiffany Moore and her husband, Jason; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Gassen and Grace Sowers.
