Joyce Ozella Speed Marriott, 74, of Stover, died Saturday morning, Feb. 23, 2008, at home.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the Stover First Baptist Church, with Rev. Dinzel Webb and Rev. Travis Smith officiating. Rhonda Marriott and Danielle Jackson will give the eulogy. Donna Bowers will accompany the congregation as they sing "It Is Well With My Soul." Burial will be in the Stover Cemetery with Mike Coslet, John Jackson, Mancil Marriott, Lee Marriott, Matt Marriott, Scott Wilson, Kale Stine, Kenny Stine and Mike Marriott serving as casket bearers. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the Stover First Baptist Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Stover First Baptist Church. Born Dec. 31, 1933, in Greenville, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Ernest Major and Amanda Christine Heaton Speed. On June 24, 1955, in Greenville, she married Melvin "Sonny" Marriott, who survives of the home. She was a graduate of Parker High School in Greenville, S.C. She assisted her husband in the operation of their dairy farm. For 15 years she drove a bus for the Morgan Co. R-I School district in Stover and for 23 years worked alongside her husband in their custom harvesting business, where she drove a grain truck. She was a member of the Stover First Baptist Church, where she was a Vacation Bible School volunteer, church dinner coordinator and sang in the church choir. She also led the Sunday School services at the Golden Age Nursing Home in Stover for several years.
Preceded her in deatha was a son, Randall "Ranny" Marriott.
Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda Marriott, of Marshall, three granddaughters, one aunt, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
