The Greyhounds snapped a four-game losing streak Saturday with an 82-54 non-conference home win over Northwest of Hughesville, making up a game postponed Thursday. Sweet Springs sank 15 out of 45 shots from three-point range, four players -- sophomores Zach Thomas, Billy Martin, Craig Sims and Tyler Dohrman -- each making three of them.
Thomas hit a pair of bombs during the opening period as the 'Hounds raced out to a 26-11 lead. Martin and Sims each had two outside jumpers during the second frame as Sweet Springs opened up a 21-point lead.
Junior Colter Young came off the bench to tally 18 points to top the Mustangs (6-17).
Dohrman led the 'Hounds (8-16) with 16 points, five steals and four assists. Sweet Springs, seeded sixth, will open district play Tuesday against No. 3 seed Fayette.
In the girls' game, Northwest -- the sixth seed in the same district -- knocked off the No. 3 Lady Greyhounds, 55-48, behind 17 points from sophomore Merideth Norfleet.
The Lady Mustangs (11-11) led at the end of each period, but only narrowly, at least until putting the game away by sinking eight of 12 free throws during the fourth quarter.
Senior Laura Keesaer scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Sweet Springs (15-10), which faces Santa Fe today in a first-round contest.
