Falls hit three shots down the stretch and Foster sank four free throws during the fourth quarter to give the Wildcats a 63-58 home victory -- their first over the Panthers since Feb. 13, 2001, when they won at Salisbury, 62-55. Senior Kyle Durham, like Falls, had six points during the final frame to allow Slater to hang on to its lead.
Sophomore Erick Billups scored 16 points and junior Shane Kressig had 13 for the Panthers (6-14, 2-5 L&C).
Falls racked up 20 points, his seventh straight game at or above that mark, and Foster added 16 for Slater (8-15, 1-8) -- which recorded its first league victory of the season. The 'Cats will host Northwest of Hughesville for a non-conference clash Thursday.
Santa Fe 70, Green Ridge 43
GREEN RIDGE -- Santa Fe jumped out to a 15-3 first-quarter lead and wasn't threatened by Green Ridge during Tuesday's 70-43 non-conference road win.
The Chiefs shot 57.4 percent from the field, led by junior Luke Brandt's 19 points. Senior John Bridwell and junior Lucas Smith each had 12 points for the Tigers (12-9).
Senior Kenzie Thorp knocked down three long jumpers on his way to 13 points and junior Taylor Wesley contributed 12 points for Santa Fe (12-8), which hosts arch-rival Concordia on Friday.
Crest Ridge 72, Sweet Springs 63
SWEET SPRINGS -- Sweet Springs prefers a shoot-out, but instead got a slug-fest Tuesday during a 72-63 I-70 Conference home loss to Crest Ridge.
The teams committed 53 fouls and shot 76 free throws between them, the Cougars holding a big edge in both shots attempted (46-30) and made (29-12) from the charity stripe. Crest Ridge was up by eight at halftime and held onto the lead the rest of the way, making 113 of 17 from the line during the fourth quarter.
Senior Andrew White topped the Cougars (4-16, 1-3 I-70) with 15 points
Sophomore Zach Thomas had 19 points and three steals and sophomore Nick Peeples notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for Sweet Springs (7-14, 1-5) -- which travels to Orrick on Friday.
Missouri Military 65, Malta Bend 57
MEXICO -- A fourth-quarter rally wasn't enough to overcome a 16-point deficit for Malta Bend, which lost to host Missouri Military Academy in the first of three round-robin games of the Colonels Classic, 65-57, Tuesday at Mexico.
Senior Bobby Kelley scored 11 of his team-high 18 points during the first half, which saw the Colonels (5-12) take a 33-20 lead. Senior Andrew Bisanz had 11 of his 16 points after the break for MMA.
Sophomore Tim Trelow tallied 19 points and sophomore Tyler Armstrong added 17 for the Tigers (6-11), who were plagued by turnovers throughout the contest. Malta Bend returns to the tourney today to take on Gateway Academy of St. Charles.
Girls
Crest Ridge 48, Sweet Springs 0
SWEET SPRINGS -- The defensive pressure applied by fourth-ranked Crest Ridge was too much for Sweet Springs to handle during a 48-30 I-70 Conference home loss Tuesday.
The Lady Greyhounds were shut out during the first quarter, 13-0, and didn't make a field goal during the first half. Meanwhile, junior Renae Shippy scored 12 of her game-high 20 points during the first half for the Lady Cougars (21-0, 4-0 I-70).
Senior Laura Keesaer hit nine of 10 free throws to lead Sweet Springs (14-8, 3-3) with 13 points.
Green Ridge 53, Santa Fe 48
GREEN RIDGE -- Green Ridge scored 40 second-half points Tuesday to sweep past visiting Santa Fe for a 53-48 non-conference decision.
The teams were tied heading into the final frame, but junior Brittney Thomas buried a pair of three-pointers -- leading all scorers with 24 points -- and the Lady Tigers (5-15) made 11 of 16 free throws during the fourth quarter.
The Lady Chiefs (8-12) got 18 points from junior Dani Heimsoth and 13 from freshman Molly Sander, who grabbed nine of her 12 rebounds off the offensive glass.
Salisbury 61, Slater 46
SLATER -- Sophomore Cassy Nicolay's 26 points led Salisbury to a 61-46 Lewis and Clark Conference road win Tuesday at Slater.
The Lady Panthers scored 25 points during the first period and held a 39-20 advantage at halftime. Freshman Morgan Vetter contributed 14 points for Salisbury (15-6, 5-2 L&C).
The Lady Wildcats (8-14, 1-8) were topped by junior Rachel Gonzalez' 15 points and 11 points from sophomore Niki Kruger.
