WINDSOR -- The Santa Fe girls' basketball team survived shaky free-throw shooting down the stretch and Windsor senior Megan Sheffield's 26 points Thursday to claim a 47-39 I-70 Conference road win.

The Lady Chiefs led by only one point after the first period, but went on a 17-6 run during the second quarter -- getting six points from junior Dani Heimsoth and a three-pointer by junior Molly Blomberg -- to take a 25-13 advantage into halftime.

Sheffield scored 21 second-half points for the Lady Greyhounds (3-14, 0-4 I-70), the final margin tightening as Santa Fe missed seven of 15 free throws -- including the front end on all three one-and-one opportunities -- during the final frame.

Heimsoth had 18 points and six rebounds and Blomberg and freshman Gia Baldwin split 21 points and 12 boards, Blomberg also dishing out four assists, to pace the Lady Chiefs (8-10, 3-1).

Santa Fe finds itself in a three-way tie for second place in the league standings, with one of the other two contenders -- Orrick -- due to arrive in Alma today.

Jamestown 35, Malta Bend 8

MALTA BEND -- Malta Bend was shut out during the first half Thursday by Jamestown, which coasted to a 35-8 CCAA home win.

Junior Regan Muri scored all of her game-high 11 points during the first half as the Lady Eagles (12-8, 6-3 CCAA) took a 23-0 lead into the intermission.

Junior Emily Warner wound up with six points for the Lady Tigers (0-16, 0-9), who are off until their Feb. 19 non-conference tilt at Southwest of Ludlow.

Marceline 55, Slater 34

MARCELINE -- Marceline expanded upon a five-point lead with a 20-4 fourth-quarter blitz Thursday to take a 55-34 home win from Lewis and Clark Conference rival Slater.

Junior Taylor Frandson scored 19 points and junior Katie Gladbach added 16 for the Lady Tigers (10-7, 2-2 L&C), who controlled the glass by a 43-30 margin.

The Lady Wildcats were led by senior Hannah Boyer's 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Slater is back on the road today at unbeaten Westran, No. 1 in this week's Class 2 poll.

Boys

Malta Bend 65, Jamestown 51

MALTA BEND -- Malta Bend sent its Homecoming crowd home happy Thursday by winning for the second time in three home games this week.

It was raining threes, the Tigers sinking 12 of them during a 65-51 CCAA win over Jamestown.

Freshman Andy Flippin scored 10 of his team-high 17 points during the first quarter as the Eagles (0-20, 0-9 CCAA) took a 15-9 lead. However, sophomore Tim Trelow buried a pair of bombs during Malta Bend's 19-9 second period and junior Ryan Armstrong knocked down three more from beyond the arc coming out of the break.

The Tigers (6-10, 4-5) hit seven of 13 from the free-throw line to help add to their 10-point lead heading into the final frame.

Armstrong had 19 points and Trelow 15 as four of Malta Bend's five starters reached double figures.

The Tigers will be Mexico next week for three games in the Missouri Military Academy Tournament, starting with Monday's contest against the host Colonels.

Santa Fe 74, Windsor 52

WINDSOR -- The Santa Fe boys blew out to a 19-point halftime lead Thursday and disposed of Windsor, 74-52, to move into a third-place tie with Orrick -- who the Chiefs host today -- in the I-70 Conference standings.

Santa Fe (11-7, 3-1 I-70) knocked down five three-pointers during the first half, three coming from senior Kenzie Thorp and one each by junior Brett Case and sophomore Jeff Knipmeyer.

Sophomore Corey Buford scored a game-high 26 points for Windsor (5-15, 0-4), 20 coming during the second half.

Besides Thorp's 13 points and 11 off the bench for junior Bryan Sander, the Chiefs' attack was balanced -- with seven players tallying six or more points.

Marceline 52, Slater 45

MARCELINE -- While Marceline pounded the ball into the paint, Slater gunned from long range.

The result Thursday was a 52-45 Lewis and Clark Conference home win for the Tigers, whose 51.3-percent shooting from the field was far superior to the Purple's 32.8 percent -- which included three-of-21 from three-point range.

Sophomore Jeff Floray scored 14 points to lead Marceline (6-11, 1-3 L&C), which helped itself by making 12 of 17 free throws -- while the Wildcats missed 18 of 22 from the stripe.

Senior Aric Falls had 20 points, 13 rebounds and nine steals, with junior Kyle Durham adding 15 points, for the Wildcats (6-14, 0-7).
