Shirley Alice Higgins, 61, of Atlanta, Ga., died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at George Washington Hospital in Washington, D.C.
Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Feb. 2, 2008, in Washington, D.C. Pallbearers were Thomas Higgins, Trevor and Tyler Higgins, Michael Higgins, Jerry Klasing and Konrad Dierker. A memorial was held at Rapp Funeral Home in Silver Springs, Md., followed by burial in Rock Creek Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
She was born Oct. 7, 1946, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall, to Shearman and Ursa Miller. After graduating from Marshall High School and Missouri Valley College, she earned a master's degree from University of Illinois. She later earned a second master's degree and a doctorate. She married Thomas Higgins on June 6, 1970, in Champaign-Urbana, Ill. She was a resident of Saline County for 24 years and a member of Presbyterian Church in Slater before moving to Atlanta.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Trevor Higgins of Dublin, Ireland, and Tyler Higgins of Washington, D.C.; and one grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
