Dorothy Marie Serrone

Dorothy Marie (Blumhorst) Serrone, 81, of Independence, entered heaven on Jan. 28, 2008, following a lengthy illness.

Services to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Independence. The family will receive friends beforehand from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial, with a short graveside service, will immediately follow at 1 p.m. at Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Donations in Dottie's memory may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Arrangements in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall.

She was born Dec. 21, 1926, at Trinity Lutheran Hospital in Kansas City. On Feb. 23, 1950, she married Anthony "Tony" F. Serrone, who preceded her in death in 1992. She was employed over 23 years with General Motors Chevrolet Division. She was a lifelong Lutheran, baptized Jan. 13, 1927, and confirmed April 6, 1941. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Independence and a faithful servant of the Lord.

In addition to much love and happiness with her husband, she was blessed with one daughter, Julia "Judy" T. Brown and her husband, Gary, of Independence; two sons, Louis A. Serrone and his wife, René, of Lenexa, Kan., and H. James Serrone and his wife, Pam, of Independence; seven grandchildren, Jason Bunker and his wife, Gabriella, Mandi Hunter and her husband, Brandon, Christina Serrone, Sara Wickham and her husband, Greg, Katie Serrone, Adam Brown and Philip Serrone; four great-grandchildren, Bella Bunker, Will Hunter, Elsie Wickham and Anthony Juarez. She leaves one brother, William Blumhorst and his wife, Jeanne, of Marshall; one sister, Agnes Reichart of Sun City, Calif.; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Frank and Delores Serrone and Angelo and Georgia Serrone; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Vincie and Eddie McMurray and Mary Lou and Leonard Goebel.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Hugo and Eulalia (Dysart) Blumhorst; four brothers, Percy Blumhorst, Eugene Blumhorst, Jim Blumhorst and Richard Blumhorst; and one sister, Rachel Blumhorst.
