Alice Maud Phillips, 77, of rural Slater, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Slater. Rev. Terry Sandwith will officiate. Bethany Weiker, organist, will play "How Great Thou Art" and "He touched Me." Burial will be in Rehoboth Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brad Peel, Joel Clements, Josh Clements, Jim Ed Peel, Alan Clements and Joe Clements Jr. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Memorials are suggested to New Prospect Baptist Church or Rehoboth Cemetery.
Born Oct. 23, 1930, north of Slater, she was the daughter of the late Marion and Catharine Winning Clements. On June 4, 1964, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she married John A. Phillips, who preceded her in death on March 16, 1987. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church north of Slater. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary in Slater and served as an ombudsmen at The Living Center in Marshall through District 3 Agency on Aging. She worked for several years as site manager for Slater Senior Center and worked as a volunteer with assisting the elderly with income tax preparations. She had worked for the past 18 years at Heartland Residential Care Center in Marshall.
She is survived by one daughter, Lisa Patton of rural Slater; two granddaughters; two brothers, W.E. Clements of rural Slater and Joe M. Clements of rural Miami; and one sister, Esther Rhea Peel of rural Slater.
She was preceded in death by one brother, John S. (Jack) Clements.
