It was a seesaw contest through three periods, the Panthers using a 14-7 run out of the halftime break to take a six-point lead into the final frame. Armstrong quickly erased that and the Tigers by making 10 of 16 free throws. On the night, Malta Bend held a 30-20 advantage in attempts and 20-9 edge in shots made from the charity stripe.
Sophomore Zach Glenn scored 25 points to lead Prairie Home (0-11, 0-4 CCAA).
Armstrong also finished with 25 points, with sophomores Tyler Armstrong and Tim Trelow combining for 23 points for the balanced Tigers (3-7, 2-4).
The Malta Bend girls were able to hang around until the fourth quarter, when Prairie Home's 14-2 run put the game out of reach, 46-19.
Senior Ashley Coffelt scored 14 points and junior Ashley Baker had 13 for the Lady Panthers (2-11, 2-2).
Junior Emily Warner tallied six points and pulled down 12 rebounds and junior Jerrian Johnson and freshman Kelsey Forqueran contributed 11 points between them for the Lady Tigers (0-10, 0-6).
Both Malta Bend teams will play host Bunceton to begin pool play in the CCAA Tournament, the girls on Monday and the boys Wednesday.
