Lady Chiefs get first I-70 win
CONCORDIA -- A 13-1 fourth-quarter run allowed the Santa Fe girls' basketball team to break a three-game losing streak and pick up its first I-70 Conference win Tuesday, 44-32, at St. Paul.
Junior Tory Kramer scored 10 of her team-high 12 points during the first half, as the Lady Saints (5-7, 0-1 I-70) went into intermission with a four-point lead. However, junior Molly Blomberg lit up the net for 14 points during the second half, including eight during the decisive final stanza, to lead the Lady Chiefs' comeback.
Blomberg finished with 20 points, nine rebounds and four assists and junior Becca Woodson added 10 points for Santa Fe (3-9, 1-1).
The Chiefs also got off to a strong start in the boys' game, out-scoring St. Paul 16-6 during the opening period during a 61-41 victory.
Senior Andrew Lemmons' 14 points topped the Saints (2-9, 0-1).
Santa Fe (8-4, 2-0) had four players score in double figures: juniors Luke Brandt (13 points), Taylor Wesley (12) and Brett Case (10), along with senior Kenzie Thorp (10).
The Chiefs will be at home Friday for a non-conference doubleheader against Carrollton.
