The Tigers lived up to their No. 9 ranking in Class 1 by demolishing Malta Bend, 70-33. Pilot Grove jumped out to a 25-5 first-quarter lead, then pushed it to 48-9 by halftime.
The purple Tigers (12-1, 6-0 CCAA) got production inside from 6-foot-3 junior Trey Schibi with 18 points and 6-4 senior Tyler Ellebracht with 15.
The black-and-gold Tigers (1-6, 1-4) were led by junior Ryan Armstrong's 14 points.
In the girls' game, Pilot Grove got all of the points it needed with 20 first-quarter tallies to beat the Lady Tigers, 51-16.
Grove (9-4, 6-0) held out a couple of starters, including '07 conference MVP Kayla Thomas, but got 11 points and 11 rebounds from freshman Cassie Lorenz.
Junior Jerrian Johnson had seven points for Malta Bend (0-7, 0-5), which hosts Tina-Avalon on Monday.
