Anna E. Rhoades, 88, of Slater, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at Big Bend Retreat in Slater.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Slater. Rev. Robert Sisney will officiate. Bethany Weiker, organist, will accompany Myra Jones as she sings "It Is Well with My Soul" and "My Jesus, I Love Thee." She will play "Amazing Grace," "Jesus Loves Me" and "Wind Beneath My Wings." Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Don Boyd, Jim Bob Audsley, Ron McCoy, Harry Whitlock, Mike Buck and Robert Schattgen. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Anna Rhoades Business Scholarship at Slater High School, in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.
Born Nov. 18, 1919, in Saline County, she was the daughter of the late George and Essie Dulaney Johnson. On Nov. 20, 1941, in Slater, she married Homer B. Rhoades, who preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 2007. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Slater. She was a member of Vivian Lessley Study Club and a 50-year member of American Legion Auxiliary. She worked as a secretary for Gordon Insurance and Real Estate, later Miller & Boyd Insurance and then Slater Bancshares.
She is survived by a daughter, Marliese Reeves and her husband, Glen, of Tempe, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Philip Reeves of Dana Point, Calif., and Andrea Sloter of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a niece, Mary Ellen Reed of Normal, Ill.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Priscilla Rhoades; two sisters, Dorothy Johnson and Luree Kitchen; and one brother, Burris Johnson.
