Mildred Hardin Lewin, 84, of Carrollton, formerly of Slater, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater, with Rev. Robert Sisney officiating. Bethany Weiker, organist, will play "How Great Thou Art" and "In the Garden." Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Stephen Allegri, David Copeland, Branen Crane, Gene Griffith, Buddy Griffith and Dick Brewer. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Slater City Cemetery.
Born Dec. 10, 1923, north of Slater, she was the daughter of the late Robert M. "Mack" Hardin and Eunice Horn Hardin. She was married to James Griffith, who preceded her in death. On Dec. 23, 1949, in Kansas City, Kan., she married Gilbert M. Cox, who preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 1987. She later married Paul Lewin, who preceded her in death. She was a licensed beautician and owned and operated a beauty salon in Carrollton for many years. She later lived in Florida and Lake of the Ozarks before returning to Slater. She moved back to Carrollton in 2006.
She is survived by two grandsons, James H. "Buddy" Griffith and Russell E. "Gene" Griffith, both of Slater, and five great-grandchildren, Braden Crane, Lexsi Griffith, Bailey Griffith, Tristian Griffith and Dalton Griffith.
She was preceded in death by two sons, James R. Griffith and Herbert Cox, and three brothers.
