Deputies responded to a domestic assault call on Thursday, Dec. 20, about 7:30 p.m. at a residence in Malta Bend.
All four victims reported to officers that the man entered the residential home, without being invited in, and was carrying a weapon, which was a wooden "tire thumper," used to check tires on vehicles.
According to the deputy's report, the man was there to collect a television from the back bedroom and he threatened the individuals within the home. He even threatened to kill some of them, according to verbal and written statements from victims.
The suspect left the residence with the television and returned to his girlfriend's house. Deputies located the suspect there and found the weapon in the car that was described to the deputies by the victims, the report said.
After being apprehended, the suspect did say he was at the residence to get the television. He said he carried the club with him for protection. He called the residence prior to the visit and talked with one of the victims and she told him if he brought his girlfriend with him she was going to be assaulted, the report said.
He said he did hold the club up and stated, "If anyone has a problem we can solve it fast." He then left the residence with the television, according to the deputy's report.
While the investigation was being conducted, it was determined that 37-year-old Wendy V. Vanhoy of Columbia, a victim in this incident, had an active warrant for her arrest issued by the Circuit Court of Boone County for failure to appear in court on a charge of driving while intoxicated. She was placed under arrest.
