Ralph M. Gilliam, 93, of Slater, formerly of Gilliam, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007,at 2 p.m. at Slater Presbyterian Church. Rev. Pam Sebastian will officiate. Bethany Weiker, organist, will play "How Great Thou Art" and "Whispering Hope." Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will be in Gilliam Cemetery. Pallbearers will be George Stafford, Wayne Reidenbach, Joe Klements Jr., Bill Meyer, Joe Trapp and Albert Wright Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Baker and Howard Jones. Memorials are suggested to the church or Slater Senior Center in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.

Born Oct. 2, 1914, in Saline County, he was the son of the late Augustan Leroy Gilliam Sr. and Edith Dameron Gilliam. On Dec. 18, 1940, in Slater, he married Evelyn M. Reidenbach, who preceded him in death on May 26, 1997. He was a member and elder of Slater Presbyterian Church. He was a retired farmer and clerk with Slater Co-op 1.

He is survived by one sister, Mary Jane Smith of rural Slater, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Augustan A. "Gus" Gilliam; four sisters, Edith Minor, Lura Gilliam, Bernice Cowger and Lois Ely; and one brother, Augustan Leroy Gilliam Jr.
