Gladys Penny, 89, of Independence, formerly of Arrow Rock, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at Golden Living Center in Independence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with Rev. Carl DeFreece and Rev. Troy Smith officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Old Lamine Cemetery in Cooper County. Pallbearers will be Troy Penny, Steve Stith, Danny Breshears, Terry Spence, Roy Roberts and Ted Reeves. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association. Born June 3, 1918, in Marshall, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Stith and Cora Maude Hamilton Stith. She married Joseph Earl Penny, who preceded her in death in 1973. She had lived in Arrow Rock most of her life and retired from Marshall Habilitation Center. She was a member of Arrow Rock Federated Church.
Survivors include twin sons, Larry Penny of Independence and Barry Penny of Columbia; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Gertrude Whitehurst of Boonville; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Thomas J. Penny; one daughter in infancy; three brothers; and three sisters.
