John E. Garrett, 100, of Windsor, formerly of Saline County, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, at Windsor Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Sweet Springs, with Rev. Randy Shannon officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Stephen Arnold, James Buehler, Phillip Gudde and Wilbert Fischer. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Sweet Springs or Windsor Senior Center.
Born May 3, 1907, in Saline County, he was the son of the late Lewis W. Garrett and Leila Cott Garrett. He lived in Saline County most of his life. He was employed at International Shoe Factory in Sweet Springs, retiring after 48 years of service. On Nov. 30, 1929, he married Jewell "Judy" Payne, who preceded him in death on Oct. 21, 1996. He was a member of First Christian Church in Sweet Springs, where he had served as a deacon and was a charter member of Sweet Springs Saddle Club and a member of Sweet Springs Gun Club. In 1978 he moved to Pettis County and later to Windsor.
Survivors include two daughters, Jo Ann Arnold Jefcoat of Windsor and Virginia D. Gregory of rural Green Ridge; three grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; ten step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian Wenzel and Marguerite Geisendorfer; and three brothers, Harvey, Richard and Roy Garrett.
