Troth named top NAIA Region III coach

Thursday, December 6, 2007

The American Football Coaches Association has selected Missouri Valley College's Paul Troth as its NAIA Region III "coach of the year." He will be recognized during the 2008 AFCA convention Jan. 9 in Anaheim, Calif.

Troth led the Vikings to a 10-3 record and, for the second year in a row, the NAIA Championship Series semifinal round, where they lost Saturday at top-ranked defending champion Sioux Falls (S.D.), 11-10. After starting the season 2-2, ninth-ranked Valley won six straight games to finish second in the Heart of America Conference -- a year after running the table on the loop with a 10-0 mark -- then recorded playoff victories at No. 8 Friends (Kan.) and No. 4 Ohio Dominican.

During Troth's six years at the helm, the Vikings have posted a 45-23 mark overall, 4-2 in two playoff appearances.
