Richard "Red" Bristow, 83, of Waverly, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007, at Veterans Hospital in Kansas City.
Funeral services were held at Gibson Funeral Home in Carrollton on Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Bert Hughes officiating. Burial was in Carroll Memory Gardens Cemetery at Carrollton. Memorials may be made to the family choice.
He was born March 16, 1924, the son of Owen Bristow Sr. and Flossie Hicks Bristow. He had been a member of the U.S. Army. He married Rosie Wheeler on July 17, 1942, at Carrollton. She preceded him in death on Aug. 17, 1992. He had worked for Hudson Oil, Phillips 66, Banquet Foods and Carroll Cookie Co. He was a member of VFW Post 1773.
He is survived by two sons, Richard E. Bristow of Marshall and Lenn Bristow of Texas City, Texas; three daughters, Jewell "Judy" Vanfossen of Marshall, Susie Hayslip of Sweet Springs and Marvella Kirchhoff of Lebanon; one brother, Owen Bristow Jr. of Concordia; two sisters, Dorothy Shannon of Norborne and Wilma Page of Waverly; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one son, Glenn Bristow.
