Martha Jane Murray, 89, of Slater, Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Slater. Rev. Robert Sisney will officiate. Bethany Weiker, organist, will play "Ave Maria." She will accompany Gerald Gerhard as he sings, "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" and "Amazing Grace." Burial will be in Slater City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Fred McCabe, Dan McCabe, Glenn Miller, Ryan Bachman, Bruce Viertel and Brian Campbell. Friends may call Monday at Weiker Funeral Home in Slater. Memorial are suggested to First Baptist Church Scholarship Fund or Slater Senior Center.
Born Oct. 10, 1918, in Slater, she was the daughter of the late Henry Walker Gilliam and Lula Beymer Gilliam. On Oct. 2, 1940, in Slater, she married Rogers J. Murray; he preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 1988. She was a member and former trustee of First Baptist Church in Slater. She was co-owner of the family business, Gilliam Chevrolet in Slater, for many years. She was a member of Vivian Lessley Study Club and a lifelong Slater area resident.
She is survived by four daughters, Ida Jane Garnett of Slater, Barbara Campbell of Silverthorne, Colo., Martha McCabe of Columbia and Margaret Viertel of Boonville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Henry W. Gilliam.
