Joyce Johnston McRoberts, 88, of Malta Bend, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, at Mar-Saline Manor in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Malta Bend Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Fitzgibbon Cancer Center. Born Dec. 17, 1918, in Harrisburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Rev. Joseph E. Johnston and Eulalia States Johnston. On Dec. 20, 1941, she married Lawrence Huston McRoberts, who preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 1984. She had lived in Malta Bend most of her life and was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Chillicothe High School, where she was homecoming queen. She was also a graduate of Missouri Valley College, earning a bachelor's degree in education. She was a member of Malta Bend United Methodist Church and its U.M.W. She was also a member of the Malta Bend American Legion Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star and numerous bridge clubs. She enjoyed being a member of the greatest generation and was extremely proud of her country and the sacrifices both sides of her family made to help ensure our freedom.
Survivors include one son, Tom McRoberts and his wife, Becky, of Marshall; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Joe Johnston of Nixa; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Joe McRoberts, and one daughter, Sandi Stines.
